The historic Heartland Hotel Fox Glacier originally opened in 1928 and has provided a comfortable bed for the night for more than its fair share of climbers and adventurers from all corners of the world. Restored in 2007, the hotel proudly continues its tradition, with modern comforts.

Fox Glacier Local Attractions

No visit to Fox Glacier is complete without experiencing the glacier itself. Walks, guided expeditions and scenic flights will give you an appreciation of the magnificence of the icy mass which runs 13kms and falls some 2,600 metres from its neve in the Southern Alps to its terminal in the temperate rainforest.

Mountain Goats Cafe & Climber's Rest Bar

Opening hours

The Mountain Goats Café is open for lunch from 11.30am in the summer only and evening dining from 5.30pm until 9pm in the winter and until 9.30pm in the summer. The Climber’s Rest Bar opens from 4pm and is equipped with a large screen TV, pool table, darts board and small casino.

Breakfast is available in the buffet dining room from 6.30am in the summer and 7.30am in the winter.

You can be assured that at either of our two dining options situated within the Heartland Hotel Fox Glacier you will be getting a honest, tasty and warming West Coast meal filled with local delicacies like whitebait or warming Kiwi favourites to refuel you after a day of glacier activities. Our full buffet breakfasts will also well prepare you for whatever the day ahead brings.
