AustralianDeal_ScenicHotelAuckland.jpgFrom the Scenic Hotel Auckland and Back Again

You can accomplish a great deal in just one day in Auckland as our one-day tour suggestions show. Nearly all of our tour ideas can be independently-taken, but using local Auckland tour operators can take away any map-reading, timing and driving stresses. Our staff at the Scenic Hotel Auckland can help with recommendations and making tour bookings – simply email ahead or ask at reception.

Auckland Central City One Day Walking Tour

Grab a map and some comfortable shoes and let your feet do the touring. From our central location, all the major attractions of Auckland are within walking distance including: Albert Park, Auckland Museum, Sky Tower and SkyCity, cathedral of St Patrick and St Joseph, Viaduct Harbour, Auckland harbour bridge (bridge climbs and bungy jumps), Auckland Town Hall. Guided City Walks are also available, which last for approximately 2 hours.

Auckland One Day Sailing Tour

Auckland is known as the City of Sails and on a fine day, there is almost nothing better than enjoying the sights and smells of the city from a beautiful sailing yacht. Follow in the wake of the America's Cup Yacht Race entrants and relax (or take the helm) through Waitemate Harbour to the islands of the Hauraki Gulf. Sailing tours can include lunch and the opportunity to visit and swim at Rangitoto Island.

Auckland One Day Winery Tour

You can sample the best from local vineyards and wineries by letting a tour guide take the wheel. There are over 100 wineries in the Auckland region and by using popular wine tour guides (who run either half-day or full-day wine tours) you can visit the wine regions of Matakana, Waiheke Island (one of the country's most prestigious boutique wine regions), Kumeu region and Matua Valley. Tours often take in the region's beauty spots and may include beer and cheese-tastings too.

Auckland One Day Heritage Tour

Starting off a one-day heritage tour of Auckland at Mt Eden is a popular choice with both independently-touring visitors and local tour operators. Mt Eden offers panoramic views over Auckland and once back in the city, recommended heritage sites include: St Mary's Cathedral (New Zealand's first Anglican Diocese), St Stephen's Chapel, Harbour Bride, Mt Victoria, Bastion Point, Auckland Museum, New Zealand National Maritime Museum and One Tree Hill. Guided heritage tours are available, some with particular emphasis on Maori cultural heritage.

Outside Auckland – One Day Tours

These destinations can be reached by rental car, although you may want to take a break from the driving with an organised tour. Popular one-day tours run by local operators with pick up and drop off at the Scenic Hotel Auckland include:

  • Rotorua – This area is dominated by Maori culture and its unique geothermal activity which includes geysers, hot pools, mud pools and the unmistakeable smell of sulphur. Also known for its lakes, trout fishing, walking and biking tracks. Popular thermal areas include: Whakarewarewa (home to the famous Pohutu geyser), Waimangu, Waiotapu and Hell’s Gate.
  • Waitomo Caves – Formed over 30 million years ago, these limestone caves are home to unique glowworms which light up the caves. Best viewed by boat or by a 'black-water' rafting experience – an exhilarating abseiling, jumping and floating adventure for all ages.
  • Bay of Islands – Known for its sunshine and natural beauty, a boat trip is highly recommended to the Hole in the Rock and/or a dolphin and whale-watching cruise. You can also enjoy locally-caught and prepared seafood such as oysters, prawns, scallops and lobster. The seafood chowder and salmon on the menu at the Nikau Restaurant at Scenic Hotel Bay of Islands is highly recommended.
  • Coromandel – A great destination for beach lovers. The Coromandel Peninsula is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the country including Cathedral Cove, Hahei Beach and the famous Hot Water Beach.
