What To Pack for Your Auckland Trip

Auckland Weather and Climate

The climate in Auckland is oceanic with warm, humid summers and mild, damp winters. Auckland is New Zealand's warmest and sunniest major city with an average of 2,060 sunshine hours per year. It has high levels of rainfall almost all year round. Bear in mind, that climatic conditions vary in different parts of the city due its natural features, so be prepared for 'four seasons in one day'. However, Auckland has only ever recorded snowfall on the 27th July 1939.

What to Pack – Seasonal Packing for Auckland

Generally speaking, New Zealand has a casual dress code – although suits and ties are expected in top-end Auckland city restaurants. Smart casual clothes are acceptable at most other restaurants and night-spots. Jandals (flip-slop type sandals) are best worn at the beach, but attitudes towards dress are typically relaxed.

You should always pack a rainproof jacket and possibly an umbrella as rainy days in Auckland are quite common all year round. You will need sunglasses and a sun hat (plus suncream protection) during the spring and summer due to New Zealand's high UV rating. (Peak UV radiation levels in New Zealand are around 40% higher than those in North America)
