Being an airport hotel offers the opportunity to encourage travellers to embark on an environmental journey both at home and abroad. Heartland Hotel Auckland Airport works operationally and through its guest programme toward a sustainable future with a range of initiatives.

As part of a proudly New Zealand owned and operated hotel group, Heartland Hotel Auckland Airport invites guests to support a New Zealand purchasing initiative which is marked on menus and implemented throughout the hotel where practical and possible.

Guests at Heartland Hotel Auckland Airport can enjoy a chemical free environment and rest in the comfort of knowing that their stay is designed to minimise environmental impact through a range of initiatives that include:

Environment

  • All products sourced locally where possible, reducing Scenic Hotel Group's carbon miles​
  • Sustainable suppliers programme
  • Buying New Zealand made to minimise the environment impact of both production and distribution

Waste

  • Waste recycling and waste reduction including in-room recycling bins
  • All food scraps separated and sent to worm farms
  • Recycling of cooking oils
  • Biodegradable chemicals for kitchen cleaning
  • Partnership with Soap Aid to reuse and recycle used soap bars left after guest stays
  • Bathroom amenities once opened are given to local charities to assist with poverty stricken people
  • Coat hangers from dry cleaners are recycled or returned
  • Recycling available for guests in rooms
  • Printer and copier toner recycling
  • Chemical-free cleaning in all rooms
  • Staff have double computer screens to save printing costs
  • Reduce paper by electronic transmission of all documentation where possible, double siding of printing, use of recycled paper etc.

Energy and Water Saving

  • Energy conservation measures throughout the hotel
  • Installation of water saving devices e.g. water reducing shower heads in hotel rooms
  • Energy saving light bulbs installed wherever possible
  • Option for guests to reuse towels, to save water and reduce chemical detergents
  • Guest linen reuse programme
  • Support

    • Unclaimed lost property given to charities such as Women's Refuge
    • Supporting ‘NZ Made’
    • Local sponsorship of an environmental initiative for each hotel to the value of $1000 per annum
    • Staff training in sustainable hospitality environments
    • Guest survey includes questions on environment sustainability
    • Staff suggestion boxes for new initiatives
    • Ongoing training of staff to ensure maximum participation in sustainable practices to improve company's performance

    Heartland Hotel Auckland Airport supports sustainable living and actively encourages guests to participate in simple but highly effective hotel initiatives to help keep New Zealand Green and uphold the hotel’s Qualmark Enviro Silver award status. This Government initiative is New Zealand tourism’s official quality assurance programme and provides an operational benchmark for the tourism industry as well as guests.
