Vineyards, Sunlight, and Silver-Screen Scenery in Marlborough

A region of undisputed natural beauty, sun-bathed Marlborough sits at the top of the South Island and boasts world-class wineries, picturesque Sounds, and enchanted forests.

Vineyards and Wineries

Due to its excellent weather and fertile soil, Marlborough is known as New Zealand’s premier wine-growing region. If you’re a wine connoisseur, enthusiast or even appreciator, you’ll be right at home with more than 30 world-class cellar doors to see and sample.

Picton – Gateway to the South

Located at the top of the South Island, Picton is an inviting seaside village that welcomes passengers travelling by ferry between the North and South Islands. Home to boutique shops and a variety of eateries it sets the tone for much of the South Island below it. Stroll along the foreshore and soak up the stunning scenery.

Sounds That Need To Be Seen To Be Believed

Lush native forest grows right down to the picturesque shoreline of deep turquoise coves in the Marlborough Sounds. Genuine “wooow!” moments are a common soundtrack when people see Marlborough’s Queen Charlotte and Pelorus Sounds for the first time. Queen Charlotte can be seen from the comfort of the Interisland Ferry when travelling to Picton from Wellington, and Pelorus Sound during a scenic drive from Picton to Havelock.

See The River Featured in The Hobbit

An enchanting forest glade, Pelorus Bridge Scenic Reserve is within a one-hour drive from Blenheim. The Pelorus River that runs through it is so enchanting in fact, Peter Jackson chose it for The Hobbit’s river scenes. Come and see why.

One of New Zealand’s Sunniest Town

In a country spoilt with sunshine, the title of New Zealand’s sunniest town is fiercely contested. Situated in the heart of Marlborough’s wine-growing region, Blenheim is a front runner with an average of 2,438 hours of sunshine per year. Take a stroll along the tranquil Taylor River as it meanders through the town and stop and visit one of the many Blenheim cafes, artisan shops, and galleries.

Marlborough is a charming region to stay in at any time of year, but it really comes alive in summer with all the sunlight and perfect wine-drinking weather. To set up a base to explore from, check availability at our Scenic Hotel Marlborough, Blenheim. You’ll have a glass in your hand before you know it. Cheers!
