Hawke’s Bay – Fruit Bowl and Art Deco Capital of New Zealand

Hawke’s Bay’s main centre, Napier was devastated in 1931 by New Zealand’s deadliest earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.8. Art deco architecture was heavily adopted during the rebuild and the small seaside city is now known as New Zealand’s art deco capital. In addition to the many landmark buildings, Hawke’s Bay attractions include the world’s largest Gannet bird colony, artisan farmers markets, wineries and endless leisure cycling.
