Top Things to Do in Marlborough

Hiking

Outdoor enthusiasts are spoilt for choice when it comes to hikes in Marlborough. If you’re up for the challenge, embark on the highly popular Queen Charlotte Track to immerse yourself in nature’s stunning displays along magnificent coastlines and through tropical canopies. Don’t worry if you’re not up for the full trek (it is 75km!) – there are plenty of sections perfect for a shorter walk and there are are ferry services throughout the sounds to pick you up and drop you off at key locations.

Just outside of Blenheim, Wither Hills Farm Park offers an extensive network of hiking and biking trails through rolling hills and lush landscapes, offering stunning views over the Richmond Ranges, Wairau Valley and over to Blenheim. If you have keen mountain bikers in the family, this park also offers a wide variety of tracks for all abilities.

For a stunning forest and bay hike, take on the Snout Track in Picton. This hilly trail climbs through lush forest before reaching a stunning viewpoint overlooking the beautiful Marlborough Sounds. Located just outside of Picton township, this 9km loop track offers a lot of bang for buck. 

For a challenging but rewarding hike, tackle Mt Takorika (706m) located in Havelock. The 7.5km loop track starts in Havelock township with a steep and steady climb through beautiful beech forest past multiple waterfalls. Not for the faint-hearted this challenging climb offers hikers one of the best views in the top of the South Island.

Cruise the Marlborough Sounds

The vivid blue waters of the Marlborough Sounds offer remarkable adventures of their own. Take a scenic cruise and indulge in the region’s famous seafood. Many tours offer the chance to sample fresh Greenshell Mussels (paired with local Marlborough wines, of course) while enjoying the stunning scenery.  For something a little different why not try the Pelorus Mail Boat.
