2. Glow Worm Walk
This amazing short walk (30 mins return) is located on the outskirts of Franz Josef township and takes you through native bush. On your journey in you’ll being to notice groups of glow worms hiding in and under logs. The end of the track you’ll find an old gold mining sluice face, this is where you’ll get to see the bulk of the Glow Worms! Remember not to turn on your torch if you can help it – Glow Worms like the dark!

4. Okarito Boat Tours
Jump on the Okarito EcoTour and absorb the beauty of Okarito Lagoon for 2 hours. Home to the Kotuku – The Great White Heron. On a clear day you’ll be treated to some of the best views and reflections of the Southern Alps. Learn the history of the area and take in the serenity of New Zealand’s largest and untouched wetland.
5. Franz Josef Glacier
If you’re in the area, viewing the glacier is a must! The full walk is 1.5 hours return but there are viewing opportunities along the way if you don’t have time for the entire walk. Remember your camera as the glacier is extremely impressive!
