The Frontier Café & Bar offers a ‘country pub’ style. Talk to the locals and enjoy the atmosphere, as you refuel or unwind during your stay in Haast.

The West Coast has its share of tasty treats from the surrounding rugged natural environment, from game meats to the famous West Coast whitebait. With either buffet dining (seasonal) from our carvery in the Waiatoto Room to our casual café and hearty pub style fare in the Frontier Café & Bar we will ensure that you leave happy and contented.

The Arawhata Bar is open seasonally in conjunction with The Waiatoto Room which offers a cozy escape to while away the evening.

Whisky inspired dishes this winter

Home Grown Winter

As part of our Home Grown story, we’re proud to showcase Laughing Owl whisky.

Main: Whisky-Glazed Pork Ribs with Makikihi Fries (GFO, DFO) $40

Tender pork ribs slow cooked and glazed with Laughing Owl whisky, local honey and warming spices. Finished with garlic aioli and fresh coriander, served alongside crisp South Canterbury Makikihi Fries and a crunchy red cabbage slaw.

Dessert: Traditional Scottish Cranachan with Laughing Owl whisky $18

A winter classic, toasted oats caramelised in butter and brown, folded through raspberries and whisky infused mascarpone cream. Finished with crunchy golden oats and fresh berries for a rich perfectly balance finish.

These dishes are available as part of our hotel’s dinner service.

The Frontier Café & Bar is located at Heartland Hotel Haast. Parking is available within the property. Locals and visitors to Haast are welcome to dine at the restaurant – avoid disappointment by making a booking in advance.

Opening hours: Open 7 days a week for Breakfast (7am – 10am), Lunch (11am – 2pm), and Dinner (5pm – 8pm)
